The Process Diagram Canvas

Each process definition has a separate diagram canvas. The process diagram canvas allows you to use swim lanes, activities and gateways, applications, data and sequence flows to create a business process flow. It also contains other drawing mode icons and property panel for each element.

The process diagram canvas consists of the following:

Main Toolbar

The main toolbar contains following:

Icon Icon Name Description
Select Mode This icon is used to put the element in "select mode." When in select mode, clicking an element selects the element and populates its property panel. Selected elements are indicated by a dashed outline and can be moved and resized. Multiple elements can be selected by dragging a box around them.
Zoom In Click the Zoom In icon in the toolbar to increase the process diagram magnification.
Zoom Out Click the Zoom Out icon in the toolbar to decrease the process diagram magnification.
Print Click the Print icon in the toolbar to print the process diagram. The Print dialog box gets displayed. Click Ok to print the process diagram.
Create Activity Click the Create Activity icon and drop it on the swim lane.
Create Gateway Click the Create Gateway icon and drop it on the swim lane.
Create Start Event Click the Create Start Event icon and drop it on the swim lane.
Create Intermediate Event Click the Create Intermediate Event icon and drop it on activity or between activities or gateways.
Create End Event Click the Create End Event icon and drop it on the swim lane.
Data Click the Data icon and drop it on the swim lane.
Pools and Lanes Click the Pools and Lanes icon to add a new lane.
Sequence Flow Click the Sequence Flow icon to connect two elements.
Annotations This is more like a sticky note. Click the Annotations icon and place it onto an empty space on the canvas for any element.

Property Panels

When you select an element in the process diagram canvas, the property panel of that element is displayed at the top-right side of the process diagram canvas.

When you select an element in the My Process Models panel, the property view for that element opens in the right side pane.

Process Diagram - Message Area

The process diagram message area is displayed above the toolbar. It displays warnings whenever you perform some wrong operation on any element in the pools and lanes.
